This show was a project that our director Shane had wanted to do for some time having been in the show in London himself. To say that the show is a little different is an understatement but we are always up for a challenge.
Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens is a high-energy, sci-fi disco musical that blends campy humour, outrageous characters, and an electrifying soundtrack into an unforgettable theatrical experience. Set in the seedy, neon-lit cabaret bar Saucy Jack’s, this cult-favourite show is an explosion of glam rock, 70s disco, and intergalactic adventure—making it an absolute blast to perform! The story unfolds in a world of crime, passion, and sparkling boots, where a serial killer is on the loose, targeting the cabaret's showgirls one by one. Enter the fabulous Space Vixens, an all-female squad of crime-fighting, disco-powered super heroines, who arrive to bring justice, love, and glitter to the cosmos. With their iconic anthem "Glitter Boots Saved My Life," they spread empowerment and dazzling dance moves while working to unmask the murderer before he strikes again.
This show is a dream for performers who love over-the-top characters, audience interaction, and show-stopping musical numbers. The mix of comedy, camp, and thrilling whodunit mystery keeps energy levels high, while the disco beats and flamboyant costumes make every performance feel like a party. Actors get to break the fourth wall, work the crowd, and revel in a world of sci-fi glam and larger-than-life storytelling.
Saucy Jack, the charismatic but shady owner of the cabaret bar, was played with vigour by Richard Thomas who was NODA nominated for his performance. The Space Vixens, the fierce, fearless, and fabulous trio of intergalactic crime-fighters who believe in truth, justice, and disco, were fabulously played by Catherine Jones, Carly Griffin and Zoe Phillpott. Carly was also nominated for her performace for a NODA Award for her portrayal of Jubilee Climax/Vulva Savannah. Booby Shevalle, a sultry, soulful singer at the cabaret, longing for love and a way out of this shady world, was played by Mikey Porter. Ben Mussell as Dr. Willy von Whackoff, the flamboyant and eccentric scientist with a penchant for bizarre inventions and dubious medical advice was a hoot and bared all alongside Josh Neal as Mitch Maypole, the sweet, love struck songwriter working at the club. Sammy Sax was played as a Vixen love interest by James Perons. Chesty Prospects, a larger-than-life, confident diva played to Rhiannon Rose-Goodsir's strengths as she gave it her all. Backed up by a small ensemble, Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens proved to be an eye-opening, thrilling and hysterical experience for the good people of Penarth. Here's to Glitter Boots!
